Request a consultation The purpose of the consultation

Before deciding

A conversation
and an examination.

Before proposing a treatment, the doctor needs to understand each person's concerns and expectations. The concern may be aesthetic, functional or a combination of both, and both the changes sought and the features you wish to preserve guide planning.

The examination allows these objectives to be considered in relation to the anatomy. From there, the doctor can explain which changes are possible and which have limitations. General information can offer guidance; a recommendation for each patient requires a medical assessment.

Step by step

What happens
during the consultation.

The topics covered during the initial consultation, from the conversation to the options.

  1. What you want to change

The consultation starts by understanding your concerns and what you expect from treatment. For the nose, Dr. Suárez begins by finding out exactly what you want to improve and which features you wish to preserve.

  2. Medical history

Previous treatments and procedures, regular medication and allergies are reviewed. If there has already been nose surgery, the reports form part of the assessment beforehand.

  3. The examination

The nose is assessed externally and internally. Dr. Suárez examines the septum and the structures involved in airflow, such as the nasal valves and turbinates, and assesses possible associated causes, such as sinusitis or allergy, and whether further tests are needed. In facial surgery and aesthetic medicine, the area is examined in relation to the face as a whole.

  4. Options, risks and limitations

Based on the examination, the doctor explains the options, risks and results that can be expected, and considers the requested changes alongside the anatomy. He also discusses recovery and follow-up.

  5. After the consultation

The decision does not have to be made at that moment. At LĀR CLINIC care respects the time each person needs to decide. If a procedure is considered, planning covers its aims and limitations.

Why people seek a consultation

Shape, breathing
or both.

The profile, the tip, a visible deviation or difficulty breathing are reasons for seeking a consultation. So is discomfort that persists after an operation. An aesthetic goal is enough to seek a consultation even without breathing difficulties, and Dr. Suárez still assesses nasal function.

The consultation is not limited to the nose. Eyelids, eyebrows, ears, cheeks and lips are examined in relation to the face as a whole. In aesthetic medicine, the aims, duration and limitations of treatment are established, including when there have been previous treatments. Consultations are held in Spanish and English.

What you take away from the consultation

The consultation helps you understand which changes are possible and what their limitations are.

Every result depends on each person's anatomy and objectives. This is why the recommendation follows the examination.

Practical questions

Before requesting
the consultation.

What people usually ask before the initial visit.

Do I need to have decided on a treatment before attending?

No. The consultation helps you understand why a treatment is proposed, which changes it allows and what its limitations are. The recommendation comes after the examination.

Can I have a consultation just about the appearance of my nose?

Yes. An aesthetic objective is a reason for seeking a consultation, even if you have no breathing difficulties. Dr. Suárez also assesses nasal function.

What if I have already had nose surgery?

It is useful to bring any available reports. The assessment takes into account the previous operation, the condition of the tissues and the progress of healing. Revision rhinoplasty.

Can the consultation be held in English?

Yes. Consultations at LĀR CLINIC are held in Spanish and English.

How do I request a consultation?

By telephone or email, using the details at the bottom of this page. The clinic details and form are available under contact.

Before you read

General answers,
individual decisions.

Each person's anatomy and objectives influence what rhinoplasty can achieve. General answers help prepare for the consultation; a recommendation requires a medical assessment.

The questions focus on the nose. Facial surgery and aesthetic medicine have their own indications and care requirements, which also depend on the examination and each person's medical history.

What the initial consultation involves

The clinic

Before
deciding.

Reasons for a consultation, age and expectations.

Is there a specific age for surgery?

In general, assessment for aesthetic rhinoplasty requires facial growth to have finished. Age alone does not determine whether someone can have surgery: their health and expectations are also considered.

Can a reference photograph predict the result?

It can help explain the change you are interested in. Every nose has different anatomy, so an image of another person cannot promise the same result. The doctor considers this reference alongside the patient's characteristics.

What should I bring to the initial consultation?

Written questions and any available reports, particularly if you have already had nasal surgery. You should also mention your regular medication, allergies and other treatments. Preparing for the initial consultation.

Techniques and approaches

About
the procedure.

What each name means and what determines the technique.

What is the difference between functional, ultrasonic and revision rhinoplasty?

These are not three mutually exclusive categories. Functional describes a purpose: addressing changes in the nasal structure that make breathing difficult. Ultrasonic refers to the instruments, because ultrasound is used to work on the nasal bones; it is one of the techniques Dr. Suárez uses. Revision indicates that there has already been a previous rhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty or septoplasty?

Septoplasty corrects the septum to resolve obstruction and improve breathing. Rhinoplasty changes the shape or size of the nose. When both are needed, the combined procedure is septorhinoplasty. The examination determines which is appropriate.

Can the septum be corrected during the same operation?

Yes. Dr. Suárez states that aesthetic rhinoplasty can be performed at the same time as septum correction. Whether this is appropriate in each case depends on what the examination shows. Septoplasty.

Open or closed rhinoplasty?

Access can be through the inside of the nostrils or through an open approach, which includes an incision in the skin between them. The choice depends on the structures that need to be treated. Surgery can change bone, cartilage or both, according to the agreed aim.

What is explained before surgery?

The proposed changes, postoperative care and follow-up. This information also includes possible complications.

Recovery and risks

After
surgery.

What you should know about recovery, the result and risks.

What is recovery from rhinoplasty like?

Swelling, bruising and a feeling of congestion may be part of recovery. The return to work or exercise depends on the procedure, progress and type of activity. Rhinoplasty recovery.

When can the result be seen?

The appearance in the first few weeks may still change over the following months. How follow-up is organised is explained before surgery.

What are the risks of rhinoplasty?

Risks include bleeding, infection, changes in scarring and breathing difficulties. These risks are exceptional. During the consultation, following the medical assessment, they are explained individually according to each patient's characteristics. Risks and limitations.

Might another operation be needed?

In some cases, yes. The aesthetic result may not meet expectations and further surgery may be required. After a previous rhinoplasty, it may be necessary to wait for the nose to finish recovering before considering another procedure.

Before choosing

Before discussing the price

A quotation
depending on the procedure.

Rhinoplasty can have aesthetic aims, functional aims or both. It can change bone, cartilage or both, and may start with a nose that has already undergone surgery. These differences change the procedure and its quotation.

Medical assessment allows the plan to be finalised and a quotation to be prepared for each patient.

What the initial consultation involves

What influences

What determines
the quotation.

These are the factors that change the plan and, with it, the quotation. None can be determined without an examination.

Step by step

How to request
a quotation.

From first contact to the decision.

  1. Request a consultation

By telephone or email, using the details at the bottom of this page. It is advisable to explain what you wish to have assessed: shape, breathing or a previous operation.

  2. The assessment

The doctor reviews your objectives and medical history, performs the examination and explains the options, risks and expected results.

  3. The plan and quotation

If a procedure is considered, the plan sets out its goals and limitations. The quotation is prepared on the basis of that plan.

  4. Ask questions and think it over

Before accepting it, it is helpful to ask what it includes and whether any subsequent treatment would cost extra. After the consultation, there is time to consider your decision.

Before accepting

Comparing quotations
with an informed approach.

The figure is only one part. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons stresses that the surgeon's experience and the confidence they inspire matter as much as the final cost.

It is advisable to

  • Compare what each quotation includes, not just the total.
  • Ask about follow-up appointments and the cost of additional treatment.
  • Consider the surgeon's experience and the confidence they inspire as much as the figure.
  • Take time to decide.

Reasons to be cautious

  • Paying for a procedure before having a consultation.
  • Vouchers or discounts sold on deals websites.
  • A fixed figure without a prior examination.
  • A result promised on the basis of someone else's photograph.

Common questions

Questions about
the quotation.

What determines the price and what to check before accepting a quotation.

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

It depends on the plan: the aim, the structures that need to be treated and whether there has already been an operation. The quotation for each case is prepared based on the assessment.

Why is there no guide price on the website?

Because two rhinoplasties may be very different procedures: one aims to change the shape, another to improve breathing and another to correct a previous operation. A general figure would not say what is included in each case.

Does Spain's public health system cover rhinoplasty?

The common service portfolio of Spain's National Health System excludes procedures unrelated to illness, accident or congenital malformation, and those intended to improve appearance (Royal Decree 1030/2006). Whether an individual case qualifies for public healthcare depends on the reason for the procedure and the criteria of the relevant health service; this cannot be settled in a private consultation.

Does revision rhinoplasty cost the same?

It depends on the plan. Revision rhinoplasty starts with a nose that has already undergone surgery, and the assessment takes the previous procedure, the condition of the tissues and healing into account, so the plan and quotation are considered for that case.

What should I ask before accepting a quotation?

What is included and what is not, whether follow-up appointments are covered and whether additional treatment would involve an extra cost. The British health service also advises not paying for any procedure before having a consultation. How to choose a surgeon.

Practical guide

Preparing for the consultation
in four steps.

Explain the reason for your visit

You may be interested in a change to the profile, tip or a deviation. There may also be difficulty breathing, discomfort after a previous operation or a combination of reasons. It is advisable to describe these separately and identify the features you wish to preserve. A reference photograph can help express a preference. It does not replace an assessment of the anatomy or allow another person's nose to be promised. The aim of the consultation is to compare expectations with the possibilities and limitations of the case.

Gather your medical history

Reports from previous operations and treatments provide information for the assessment. It is also helpful to prepare a list of regular medication and allergies, along with any questions that have arisen while learning about the procedure. If you have already had rhinoplasty, it is important to explain how the nose has changed since then. The previous surgery, condition of the tissues and healing are part of the assessment for possible revision rhinoplasty.

Ask about the whole process

The conversation does not end with the shape you want to achieve. It should also help you understand the alternatives, risks, recovery and follow-up. If something is unclear, you can ask for it to be explained again before making a decision. It is useful to write down which changes the doctor considers possible, which have limitations and what information is missing to complete the plan. You do not need to arrive at the consultation with a technique chosen or surgery already decided upon.
